Add to this the ability to be able to differentiate between breathing sounds and patterns and then memorize them, you a have clever creature that isn’t going hungry at night!

Studies have shown that trained bats were able to identify the sounds of human breathing, from three individual subjects, making no mistake in knowing which sound belong to each subject. Funnily enough humans weren’t able to do the same thing.

So it seems these creatures have one over us humans, and along with their sense of smell, they are able to make us their prey night after night. If you think you can lie in bed and change the sounds you make when you are breathing to fool them then think again. We humans are unable to change our breathing pattern whilst asleep, so to avoid repeat attacks, you’ll need to come up with your own solution. Sleep tight!

wildlife, animals, statues, collectible, eagles, wolves, dolphins, fishes, figures, moose, bear, pig, tigers, swan

Article - WildFigurines.com Introduces The Sandicast Range To Its Already Impressive Range Of Wildlife Figurines

May saw the inclusion of one of the most prized wildlife figurine’s collection on the planet, to WildFigurines.com’s own collection – that of Sandicast.
Sandicast are renowned for their Animal sculptures by Sandra Brue, the Masterpieces of Nature to be precise. “Their quality was something we were very impressed with when first introduced to them, and immediately decided to promote their line of wildlife figurines,” says Dean of WildFigurines.com
As a wildlife figurines web site, the primary purpose of Wildfigurines.com is to offer wildlife figurines of all shapes and sizes, but more importantly to offer as much as mother nature offers in her array of wildlife species.
Sandicast’s range of wildlife figurines and sculptures has done this. Their range of wildlife spans every continent, from the North Pole to the south, from the African plains to the North American wilderness, to the oceans and seas, and even to the bush of Australia.
They also offer a range of sizes from Original Size, to Lil’ Snoozers and Junior’s, all the way up to the impressive and intimidating Life Size statues. As a lover of wildlife figurines, the small collector will find many pieces for their mantle, where as the larger statues are well suited to foyer’s and the like.
Sandra Brue’s method for creating her sculptures starts with becoming intimate with the animal itself. Trips to the San Diego zoo are not uncommon when starting a new piece, even to the extent that she sat inside the enclosure with a giant hippopotamus, only six feet away, whilst sculpting.
Sandra uses an oil-based clay that never hardens to create the original, and she will make several trips back and forth to ensure the sculpture is just right. Then she adds the hairs, one by one, an extremely time consuming affair, and just before the piece is ready for casting, she will carve her name “BRUE” to ensure authenticity.
After hand-pouring a cast stone mixture, the sculpture is checked for quality before it is hand painted using both bristle and air brushing. Finally, specially crafted glass eyes that appear real enough to create the feeling that the animal is looking at you, are inserted into the sculpture.

After a short period of time, the bird flew back to the fence it was previously on and starting bashing the worm again.

Why did it pick that spot again when there was plenty of fence nearer to it's nest? I guessed the repeated bashings (and I mean it returned to the fence 4 times) were simply because the worm hadn't died or was not tender enough yet, but why fly all the way back to that particular spot?

I was intrigued and watched this event take place with such intensity, I didn't even notice my kids had piled into the van.

Anyone with experience in bird behaviour is welcome to add their comments and thoughts on why the bird acted in this way. In fact February’s winner was able to choose two figurines, as the total value was $30.
Second prize winners were given access to the free downloads section, normally only available to purchasers of wildlife figurines, where they were free to download any or all of the wildlife themed products for use on their computer.
Examples of the downloadable products are-

· E-Calendars, which can be used on your computer. They are made from a spreadsheet program, which simply allows the user to type in certain activities for any day, and then save it. The beauty of the calendars is the magnificent photography by Scotch Macaskill, a wildlife photographer from South Africa. One calendar boasts 12 magnificent African sunsets, one for each month, and the other, 12 close-up photos of some of Africa’s most prized and loved wildlife. Value $10ea

· E-mail sound alerts, created from the natural call of some of the worlds more popular wildlife, including the roar of the lions, hooting of the owls, and communication of the dolphins. The sound alerts are a 4-5 second sound file which can easily be downloaded and integrated into Outlook Express for example, so that when you receive an email, you will hear your favourite animals. So far WildFigurines.com has only created the three but is looking to create more in the near future. Value $10ea

· Desktop wallpapers and Adoption certificates are also available, as a thankyou from the World Wild Life fund for WildFigurines.com’s continuous support. “Because our customers contribute to the WWF’s cause by way of indirectly donating, we thought they should also get something in return,” says Dean from WildFigurines.com “we don’t just give these away as part of our second prize, everyone who purchases from our web site also gets free access to our downloadable gift store.”

The competition runs all year round and has new 1st and 2nd prize winners every month. The draw takes place at the end of the month and winners are notified, usually by the first day of the next month by email.
To enter, visitors only have to visit the Monthly Competition page at Wildfigurines.com by either clicking on the ‘Competition’ link at the top of every page, the ‘Monthly Competition’ link on the left hand side of every page, or just look out for the greenback $30 bill. Once there, they simply have to fill out the form at the bottom by entering their first name and email address (last name is optional).

Winners are chosen by a random selection process and once notified 1st prize winners can simply browse the web site, choose their wildlife figurine(s) up to the value of $30 and then enter their chosen products into the ‘Contact Us’ page, where the prize is processed and shipped within 1 – 3 days. 2nd prize winners are given a secret link by email which will then take them to the gift store where they will find instructions on how to download and use all the gifts.
WildFigurines.com came up with the idea of a monthly competition late in 2005 because they realized people love to win free things, and it adds excitement to the web site.

Product Update

These Products added 16th March 2006

Check out our new range of Sandicast Wolf Figurines

See more Wildlife Figurines

Collectors Of Wildlife Figurines Will Often Be A Reflection Of The Animal They Collect

A passionate collector can depict a sense of what makes them who they are by simply surrounding themselves with an animal that displays the same attributes in the wild.

Wildlife figurines are being sought after by a large cross section of society and one has to wonder what makes collecting wildlife figurines such a popular past time. It could be assumed that people feel a sense of emptiness when they think of how quickly the habitat of the earth's wildlife is diminishing, or they feel in awe of an animal or birds unique presence in the wild. Either way they feel an attachment and decide to surround themselves with wildlife figurines, art, sculptures, decor and so on. So if this is the case, then how does one choose the animal? Well I believe in most cases they don't, the animal chooses them.

Its obvious to me that the material used to make a wildlife figurine does not seem to matter as much as the actual animal itself. When people come to our site searching for wildlife figurines, rarely do they search for the form or material along with the animal, and I think it’s because people are what they collect.

Eagles display authority in the air, and are seen this way, so a collector of eagle figurines may have a deep sense of gratitude towards authority or be an authoritarian themselves. The eagle is also known as the American eagle in North America and so a collector of American eagle figurines may feel a deep sense of patriotism.

A Dolphin has intellect and some people will see them this way, along with a sense of playfulness and willingness to swim with people. Collectors of dolphin figurines may themselves be playful or easy to get along with or admire intelligence.

Elephants display a strong desire to stay within their groups and have a strong family sense. They also mourn their losses, so a collector of elephant figurines may see family as their biggest priority in life and admire the elephant for doing the same.

The animal kingdom and its constituents display a large variety of characteristics, some unique, some shared, and some beyond civilized human capabilities, yet a collector of wildlife figurines should always be able to connect to something that gives them inspiration, harmony and a sense of self purpose.

Lion figurines, Giraffe figurines, Swan figurines, Wolf figurines, Owl and Moose figurines and are some of the other more popular wildlife figurines available at Wild Figurines, but we also sell bear figurines, horse figurines, duck figurines, tiger figurines and so on. The number of available animals, birds and sea creatures is at 66 and growing so there is bound to be an animal to suit everyone’s inspirational and spiritual needs.

Product Update

These products added 7th March 2006

Check out the new additions to our range of Horse Figurines

Liberty Bronze Range

Or check out these other great Horse Figurines!

Leather Horse with Saddle and Harness

Glass Horses Musical Carousel

End of the Trail Horse Figurine

Wild Horses This new found species is being called Castorocauda lutrasimilis, and roughly translated means "beaver tailed and looks like a river otter" (where do they get these names?!).

Although refered to as a mammal, it isn't really such, and is more of a predecessor of the modern mammals we affectionately know as the platypus and echidna. This is a scary thought as the plight of our wildlife is already at wits end.

But it's not just the Polar Bear's whose livelihoods and natural habitats are being withered away at alarming rates, it's happening all around the world. There is a real call for financial help from anywhere and everywhere and that includes individuals and small business.

WildFigurines.com has been contributing to the World Wildlife Fund's cause since the business began last year, by donating 10% of every wildlife figurine sale, and even more for the month of January due to slow sales. "January is always the quiet time of the year for business owners, which is why we made a larger than the normal 10% donation", says the owner of WildFigurines.com Dean Whittingham. "We believe it's important to give more when you know most people will usually give less."

WildFigurines.com is an online store for wildlife lovers and Dean, being a wildlife lover himself, is worried that the environment and it's inhabitants has never seen a time as tough as this ever since man walked the earth. Without financial aid the study of the Wild including Polar Bears, would not exist to the level that is needed to even know that a problem is there. What most people don't realize is that as small as a donation may seem, they all add up.

The Polar Bear is calling to all with a heart, to give generously and help the many organizations out there, who spend their valuable time understanding the changes in the environment, the impact it's having on wildlife, and the possible solutions needed to prevent the extinction of some of mother's natures most precious assets - Her Wildlife.

WildFigurines.com will continue to donate to the World Wildlife Fund by donating at least 10% from every sale of their wildlife figurines, but is looking for other organizations to donate to as their business grows.

About WildFigurines.com –

WildFigurines.com Last year, our biological survey of a remote section of the Amazon and our negotiating expertise came together in the creation of the Alto Purús complex in Peru. Alto Purús is the final piece of an 81.5 million-acre conservation corridor stretching for nearly 700 miles through the Amazon. Additionally, WWF's studies formed the technical and scientific basis for the creation of an additional 7.5 million-acre mosaic of protected areas in Brazil. Thanks to the support of members like you, we hope to see more great successes in the Amazon in the years to come.
Steve MORELLO
WWF Across the Continent of North AmericaYou know that WWF is integral in protecting ecoregions around the world, but did you also know that we help to restore degraded ecosystems across the United States and North America too? From helping to restore Florida's Lake Okeechobee and the Everglades to protecting salmon spawning rivers in the Pacific Northwest, WWF is involved in environmental projects here in the United States as well. Two of our crowning achievements of 2005 were in Montana. We worked with our partner, the American Prairie Foundation, to acquire 31,320 acres of land for wildlife restoration and to reintroduce key species like American bison. This reintroduction marked the first time genetically pure bison lived on Montana soil since their departure 120 years ago.
WWF-Canon / Martin HARVEY
New WWF Photo Gallery!View photos of your favorite animals on the WWF Web site in the new WWF photo gallery! The bill would undermine protections that imperiled species have depended on for more than 30 years. It would reduce the prospects of restoring healthy populations of threatened and endangered plants and animals, repeal current protections from pesticides, weaken the scientific foundation for decision-making, and divert scarce resources away from conservation. Join the Conservation Action Network (CAN) today, and take action on this very important issue!

http://www.wildfigurines.com/Wildlife_News.html Going Are The Days Where Businesses Are Focused On Profits And Shareholders, And Growing Are The Businesses That Are Enlightened

This means if your business is about giving back, you are part of a wonderful new wave.

For those of you wondering what on earth I’m talking about, let’s just start by exploring the old fashioned corporation in its simplest (yet probably harshest) form.

A business is born with the idea of providing a product or service. Investors are invited to invest capital and share in the profits of the business, unless of course you’re a Mom and Pop business.

The main objective for an investor, is the return on investment, so the main objective for the business operator is to keep the investor happy, which means achieving the highest possible profits. If you’re a Mom and Pop business, the main objective is to make a living.

Now, when you hear people criticize capitalism, usually it’s not because the business is trying to achieve maximum profits, but the lengths to which business operators will go in order to achieve this. Once again this is in its harshest form, but some of these lengths will include, downsizing, environmental damage, animal cruelty, and even extreme cases, turning to crime.

It is a concern for many that when a business’s primary concern is profit, then a price will have to paid somewhere else down the line, and this is where the old argument of one winner, one loser is so prevalent.

So what is enlightened? Well enlightened is now one of my favorite words and it basically means that in order to receive, you must first give. So how does one give first? Well the answer has more to do with your reasons for being in business.

If your sole reason for being in business is for profit, then it’s very hard for you to give anything until you have made a profit. But if your business is about helping others, then you can’t but help to give first.

Let’s try thinking about it from a different angle. If you found a cure for cancer, do you think you’re going to become rich? You bet your backside you will, but really, is that why someone works night and day in a laboratory, spinning test tubes and whatever else, just so that one day they might strike it rich? Of course not, it’s the drive to do something wonderful to help the world.

Whether you are religious or not, people are understanding more and more that life is not about economics and profits, but more about helping a common cause, and that is to make everybody’s lives on this little blue planet, that much easier. For me personally, I also think that life is about learning, not earning.

We’re going to use an example of an enlightened business. First of all, this business is a retailer of products and so on the surface, it would look like any other business. But look deeper and you see that the concern of the owner is to enlighten the customer so that the customer feels there is a benefit to them, rather than being told how great the business is or how long it’s been established.

The next thing is that the customer feels they are welcome because it is their wants that are the primary focus. The owner is explaining to the customer, the benefits of the product, and how it is going to make a difference in their life. Most of the time, the customer is not concerned with how long you’ve been in business, how many miles you have traveled, or the painstaking hours involved in finding or making this product.

When you care about the customer first, you are most definitely on the way to being enlightened.

The next thing we see about this enlightened business is that they are donating some of their profits to a charity, and usually the charity will have some relation to the products or will be a common theme among all, or may have a personal side to it, but no matter what the charity, the owner feels driven to give back to the world.

In the case of this business, there are three winners, the customer, the charity and finally, the owner. There are no losers, and this really is, an enlightened business.

To contact the author please send an email to info@wildfigurines.com or visit his site at http://www.wildfigurines.com

Product Update

Product Update 1st January

To view these products Click Here

Home Based Business

Are you a Lover of Antiques & Collectibles and looking to make some money by starting your own Home Based Business?

Maybe you already make, design, create your own collectibles, gifts or craftwares and want to sell them from home or online.
Have a look at some of the great ways you can start your own Home Based Business, selling Antiques, Collectibles, Crafts, Arts, Fashion or Giftwares.

Whether you already have the products, and need a way to sell them. This means keeping your products fresh"

- December 16, 2005 - Imagine this. A customer is looking for an animal figurine, and after a short search, they find your store. ‘Great’, they think, and once they've made their purchase they decide to bookmark your site because you had what they wanted. They enjoyed the experience, and they became loyal.

This scenario is what most business owner’s want, and it is ultimately the basis for building an asset. But what happens over time is that life changes and so do people, regardless of their initial loyalty.

If someone has an interest in a specific product type, for example, animal figurines, chances are they aren’t going to purchase just one in their lifetime. But you must also remember that a lot of the time, a customer is going to browse your site and choose what they feel to be the pick of the litter (pardon the pun!) at that time.

So what happens next? Well, a few days, weeks or months later, their hunger returns, and so do they, to your site. Lucky you! But if you’re product range has not shown some form of change or growth, chances are they are going to feel disappointed.

As a business owner you need to

1. Provide some new stimuli for your returning customers in the way of both information, but more importantly products.
2. Show that you, as the owner, are actively trying to do this, and the best way to do this is to promote your changes or product additions on your site in a prominent position, and let your visitors know they exist.

"Sometimes it will be unexpected, that a new product line takes off", says Dean. "We found a little gold mine in providing small animal figurines which can be classed as ornaments, and customers can display them in their homes either by sitting them or hanging them in their favorite spots. But unless you provide new stimulus to your returning visitors, how will you ever know?"

WildFigurines.com updates their product range on a regular basis, through intensive research, and they display their updates on a separate page with the date of inclusion.

They can be contacted at info@wildfigurines.com

Product Update

Product Update - 9th December 2005

Imported From New Zealand

With an increase in people shopping online, there naturally comes an increase in retail web sites.

However the problem seen in recent times is the advent of huge discount stores and malls trying to sell everything under the sun. This may sound handy until you actually have to shop in one.

Lured in by the promise of hugely discounted prices (which normally isn't the case), the potential customer is endlessly frustrated by the lack of 'user friendly' site navigation, which results in them being unable to find what they want.

From the home page of Wildfigurines.com, it is obvious what they're about, and if you hover your mouse over the word 'Animal', you'll get a complete list of every animal on offer. For more popular animals with a wider variety, you will also have the option of choosing which medium, such as glass, crystal, porcelain, brass and so on, however every animals medium is displayed in its own product description.

The process of purchasing a figurine is simple. Add it to your shopping cart, click on checkout, fill out your details via their encrypted online secure system, and your product is dispatched in a timely manner.

It is estimated by some that $39.1 billion will be spent online this holiday season alone, and this poses a serious question for customers and web owners alike.

1. If you're a customer, are you interested in specialty shops that provide a more enjoyable shopping experience, that does not consume too much of your valuable time?
2. If you are a website owner, are you willing to sacrifice the appeal (supposedly) of having endless lines of products, and concentrate on only a few things that customers really want?

WildFigurines.com has decided that with its online store, the customer has to be the main focus. "They (the customer) are the life line of any business. Without them, there is no business," says Dean, the owner. "We concentrate on one thing - collectible wildlife figurines."

Wild Figurines can be contacted at info@wildfigurines.com
